About the Mystic Sun Mandala
The Mystic Sun Mandala is a 12-fold sun mandala: every motif repeats 12 times around the center. It is built from 4 rings of arches, spikes, layered petals and scallops, from a small flower in the middle to the wide outer border.
This is an easy mandala with fairly large spaces – a good start for kids, beginners and anyone who wants a quick, calm page. Most people finish it in 20 to 40 minutes with crayons, markers or colored pencils.
How to Color This Mandala
Start in the center and work outwards ring by ring, so your hand doesn't smudge finished parts. Choose 3 to 5 colors and repeat them, so the mandala looks balanced.
- Arches: color every second arch the same to create a rhythm around the ring.
- Spikes: pointed shapes look great with a gradient – dark at the base, light at the point.
- Layered petals: color the back layer a shade darker than the front layer so they look stacked.
- Scallops: scalloped edges look pretty in a lighter shade of the ring next to them.
Color Ideas
- Warm sunny colors bring out the rays: yellow, gold and orange from the center out, with a touch of red on the tips.
- Jewel tones: emerald, sapphire, amethyst and ruby.
- Rainbow: one color per ring, in rainbow order from the center.
