About the Lacy Star Mandala

The Lacy Star Mandala is a 8-fold star mandala: every motif repeats 8 times around the center. It is built from 5 rings of layered petals, dots, teardrops and spikes, from a small flower in the middle to the wide outer border.

This is a medium mandala with more and smaller spaces – ideal for teens and adults who enjoy a longer, mindful coloring session. Most people finish it in about an hour or more with fine-tip markers or sharp colored pencils.

How to Color This Mandala

Start in the center and work outwards ring by ring, so your hand doesn't smudge finished parts. Choose 3 to 5 colors and repeat them, so the mandala looks balanced.

  • Layered petals: color the back layer a shade darker than the front layer so they look stacked.
  • Dots: dots are perfect for a pop of accent color, like gold or a bright contrast.
  • Teardrops: a tiny white spot left uncolored makes them look like shiny drops.
  • Spikes: pointed shapes look great with a gradient – dark at the base, light at the point.

Color Ideas

  • Try a night sky: navy and purple in the background shapes, gold and silver on the points.
  • Ocean: teal, turquoise, navy and sandy beige.
  • Pastel: baby pink, mint, lilac and butter yellow.

Did You Know?

Eight-fold symmetry is common in traditional mandalas and rose windows – the design can be split into eight equal slices.
