About the Lacy Garden Mandala
The Lacy Garden Mandala is a 8-fold garden mandala: every motif repeats 8 times around the center. It is built from 4 rings of layered petals, spikes and scallops, from a small flower in the middle to the wide outer border.
This is an easy mandala with fairly large spaces – a good start for kids, beginners and anyone who wants a quick, calm page. Most people finish it in 20 to 40 minutes with crayons, markers or colored pencils.
How to Color This Mandala
Start in the center and work outwards ring by ring, so your hand doesn't smudge finished parts. Choose 3 to 5 colors and repeat them, so the mandala looks balanced.
- Layered petals: color the back layer a shade darker than the front layer so they look stacked.
- Spikes: pointed shapes look great with a gradient – dark at the base, light at the point.
- Scallops: scalloped edges look pretty in a lighter shade of the ring next to them.
Color Ideas
- Think of a garden bed: greens for the outer rings and bright flower colors for the center.
- Jewel tones: emerald, sapphire, amethyst and ruby.
- Rainbow: one color per ring, in rainbow order from the center.
Did You Know?
Eight-fold symmetry is common in traditional mandalas and rose windows – the design can be split into eight equal slices.
