About the Golden Wheel Mandala
The Golden Wheel Mandala is a 8-fold wheel mandala: every motif repeats 8 times around the center. It is built from 4 rings of layered petals, scallops, teardrops and petals, from a small flower in the middle to the wide outer border.
This is an easy mandala with fairly large spaces – a good start for kids, beginners and anyone who wants a quick, calm page. Most people finish it in 20 to 40 minutes with crayons, markers or colored pencils.
How to Color This Mandala
Start in the center and work outwards ring by ring, so your hand doesn't smudge finished parts. Choose 3 to 5 colors and repeat them, so the mandala looks balanced.
- Layered petals: color the back layer a shade darker than the front layer so they look stacked.
- Scallops: scalloped edges look pretty in a lighter shade of the ring next to them.
- Teardrops: a tiny white spot left uncolored makes them look like shiny drops.
- Petals: shade each petal darker at the base and lighter at the tip for a soft 3D look.
Color Ideas
- Bold contrast makes the wheel spin: alternate two strong colors ring by ring.
- Forest: moss, olive, pine and warm brown.
- Autumn: rust, mustard, burgundy and copper.
Did You Know?
Eight-fold symmetry is common in traditional mandalas and rose windows – the design can be split into eight equal slices.
